AK48 is one artist whose song cracked me up on first listen (“Emi” track). He finds a playful yet meaningful way to merge his rap skills using Yoruba and English.
Born Akingbenga Adewale Akintunde-Zurakat in Itire, Surulere-Lagos, Nigeria, Dallas based aspiring medical doctor: AK48 started rapping in secondary school; engaging in freestyle battles and composing songs. Though he didn’t take music seriously until 2004, there’s no doubt that he’ll be relevant in the industry. Juggling his school work and music, he slated to officially release his mixtape titled: “Ground Zero: Tha Sequel” next month. His latest track titled: Lepa, Medium, Orobo is definitely on my list of summer jamz! There’s no doubt that he’s someone to be on the look out for. Though not currently signed on to any record label, he intends to launch an independent company known as 234 recordz.
