Repping V.O.A!

This is one artist that thoroughly impressed me when I saw him perform live at the Naija DJs Summer Jam in Atlanta this past June. The artist V.O.A, formerly known as Jaycube belted out the hook of their newest song in perfect tune, leaving his fans in awe and heart on the stage after every performance. Music has always been a passion burning inside this youthful, yet mature artist.
Folajimi Oyeneyin was born into a musical family. His father was a choir master and his mother was a choir mistress. Together they are both actively involved in church; his father is now a pastor, and his mother a Lady Evangelist. As the third born of five, the Washington DC native always had a love for performing. As a child, Folajimi sang in church. While he lived in Nigeria, he competed in various talent shows for singing and dancing; the first place position was surely not a stranger.
In 2007, Folajimi and fellow friend Cosmos (known as Effizy) met up with Nollege Wizdumb and Slim Alf to form the Naija Hip-Hop group “Apexx.” While in the group, Folajimi coined the stage name “Jay Cube.” Jay Cube provided a complementing touch of R&B to the hip hop tracks. Jay Cube had the pleasure of collaborating with various Nigerian artists, including his brother P. Sean of Wiiz Records. In late 2008, the band members made a mutual decision to pursue their individual music careers. As a result of this, “Jay Cube” began to acknowledge himself as “V.O.A” (Voice of Africa). Along with the inspiration and visions of his eldest brother, Feyishola aka “BigBross”, V.O.A. decided to pursue his music career with a higher level of dedication. Without hesitation, V.O.A. is ready to blow up the Afro-Hip Hop scene with only one thing on his mind: l
I must say V.O.A is truly the Voice of Africa and a force to be reckoned with. His voice alone could bring any woman to her knees. I know his definition of V.O.A is Voice of Africa, but if you asked me I would have said “Voice of an Angel” because truly that is what his voice reminds me of. Unlike many artists out there who shall remain nameless, V.O.A does not require the help of auto-tune to make him sound good.
He has featured singles including the popular song produced by Kid Konnect called ‘Something about your luv’ and also includes the video directed by BiggBross. “Something about your luv” was also featured on the Naija DJs Summer Jam mixtape. Big ups to V.O.A! He’s one artist to watch out for in 2009 and beyond!
I REP V.O.A
