Repping DJ Zeez!

Oh Lawd, where do I start with DJ Zeez! This artist is so talented. He gets me on my feet every time. Let’s not even talk about my favorite song: Bobbee FC. DJ Zeez, a hit maker and producer, released three hot joints in a row: “Same ni”, “Fokasibe”, and “Bobbee FC”. Known for his clever use of metaphors in his song, he knows how to get his lyrics on the lips of his fans on first listen. Check out some favorite lines of mine from “Bobbee FC”:
Omoge Manchester, s’alewa united?
Eru to gbe yen lo n je ki n wa delighted
Iwo gan-an ni captain, o o ti e need jersey
Omoge easy, s’ofe ma ge DJ Zeez
Bi o se n shake e, mi o le take e
Original ni omo ko si fake e!
Born Kingsley Elikpo, DJ Zeez who hails from Imo State started out as a Disc Jockey back in secondary school at age 17 . Though he didn’t become a household name till he released the highly rated song: “Same ni” in 2005, he had released a single titled: “Orin tonba tife” in 2004 and was once part of a now split group:Xzist. His next single: “Fokasibe” which enjoyed tremendous play on the radio, clubs and parties re-launched him back into the scene in a major way. Perhaps, it’s best to clear the air on exactly what this word: “Fokasibe” means. Contrary to the harsh way it sounds and what you might think, “Fokasibe” is not a curse word but a slang which translates to praise of the utmost level. So regardless of the context it is used, it only means a good thing!
To all the readers of this post, ori yin fokasibe! You can translate that to mean: the head of each reader of this post is in the right place and correct!
Not only has he worked and produced for numerous artists such as 9ice, JJC of 419 squad, Konga and Tuface, he also plays the keyboard and has collaborated with artists such as 9ice, Lord of Ajasa, Ruggedman, and Mr. Solek. He won the 2009 Hip Hop Award for Best Street Hop for “Fokasibe” and there’s no doubt about his talent. Hence, expect more nominations and winnings from this artist. He’s definitely one artist to keep on your radar!!

Repping Mr. Solek!
Rep Naija Artists is proud to REP their FIRST hipjufuji artist: Mr. Solek!

My first exposure to Mr. Solek’s work was through DJ Preview! His song had me dancing instantly! His fuji and juju tracks will be truly appreciated by those who listen to such genres. Forget all the old talk about these genres being “razz”. It certainly isn’t and it takes an open mind and appreciation for Nigerian music and culture to see the worth of these genres. Not only is Mr. Solek a talented recording artist, his live performances are to die for! You are guaranteed to be on your feet the entire night!
Coming forth with his self-created genre: hipjufuji , an eclectic fusion of hip-hop, juju and fuji in Yoruba, Mr. Solek a.k.a wonder boy a.k.a Mr Practical is known not only to entertain the young minds but the older generation as well.
Born Adesoji Adebayo, Mr. Solek has made his mark across several regions of the world including but not limited to U.K and the U.S. Graduating from Osun State Polytechnic, Mr. Solek left for the UK in 1995 where he worked as a chartered accountant. However, he soon quit this lucrative career to fulfill his passion for music which had manifested since his younger days. Through hardwork and dedication, he made a name for himself and has been known to throw one of the most anticipated and successful concerts every December in Nigeria.
Besides working as a musician, Mr. Solek also produces. Although he’s been producing just for himself lately, he has begun directing music videos with the first of such being the video of “Well Done” which he directed in Nigeria 2 weeks ago. He also owns a record label: Solek Ent and is currently looking for talented young artists to recruit in Nigeria. Young artists who think they have what it takes should get in contact with him!
Mr. Solek is not a newbie when it comes to albums. In 2005, he released an album titled “Your Number” which projected both juju and hip-hop. In 2007, his album titled “Why Worry” generated hits like the award winning “Mumu” amongst others like “Sodi Muke”, “Why Worry”, and “Your Number (remix)”. His past album has featured artists like Ruggedman and Lord of Ajasa.
His newest album scheduled to be released sometime this year features collaborations with artists like DaGrin, Sauce kid, Jedi the comedian, Skin (from wa wa alrite), DJ Zeez, Tianni etc. Perhaps, the best news Mr. Solek provided to me collaboration-wise during our conversation was about a track featuring him, Terry G (on the track and on the beat) and Timaya. Seriously, you should expect nothing less than hotness from this combo! You all know how I feel about Terry G! This is bound to be one hot album and I look forward to the release!
I personally have my favorites amongst his tracklist and this includes but not limited to “Are they mad” ft. DaGrin, “Lotto”, “Mo Nwole Jesu” and Practical ft. Dj Zeez! He also sent us an exclusive track as of this post titled “Well Done” ft. Skin! Listen below! This is definitely one artist to keep on your radar!
The king of hipjufuji is gonna make you go hyper…hyper hyper hyper!
