NIGERIAN DJS – GROWING STRONG WITH MUSICAL CELEBRATION
Nigerian DJs Coalition 4th Annual Summer Jam
Friday June 4th through Sunday June 6th in Houston, TX
On June 4th through the 6th, 2010 the “Hottest Coalition of Nigerian DJs” celebrates its fourth annual “Nigerian DJs Summer Jam” in beautiful Houston, TX, home of the largest body of Nigerians in the United States. The “Summer Jam,” as fans call it for short, is the superlative event in the world inviting all cultural tastemakers and Nigerian musicians and celebrities to celebrate Nigeria’s ever-popular musical heritage.
Nigerian DJs Coalition, known as Naija DJs for short, connects the world with Nigerian music through events, workshops, radio programs, mix-tapes and seminars. Naija DJs Summer Jam (SJ) initially started as a party in Maryland in 2006 but has since evolved into a meeting place for members of the coalition, artists and fans to celebrate Nigerian culture through music and consists of a welcome party, the official Summer Jam, and other engagements. SJ attracts many popular artists who employ this medium as a networking opportunity, talent showcase, and publicity platform to get their music to the world through Naija DJs. Artists such as Kelly Handsome, eLDee, NAIRA, Duncan Daniels, and others graced the stage at past SJ events. As a primary highlight of the coalition, Nigeria’s finest DJs such as the legendary DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ 3k, DJ Dee Money and other members of the coalition consistently bless the “1s and 2s” at the annual SJ event.
Naija DJs Chairman DJ 3k states, “This year’s Summer Jam promises to be another big one.” Houston’s own DJ Tunes will be in attendance along with other Nigerian DJs members, and the musical line up is currently in development with details released soon.
With 90 members spanning several regions of the world, Naija DJs continues to fulfill its purpose and promote Nigerian music. Chapters have emerged under the Naija DJs umbrella such as the Naija DJs UK chapter formed on April 9th, 2008.
More information about SJ can be obtained at the coalition’s official website: http://nigeriandjs.com/main.htm. Detailed information about the coalition and its events including a video and photo gallery of past events are available as well.

Repping Nigerian DJs!
Today, 8/11/2009, marks the 3rd year anniversary of Nigerian DJs, an elite coalition of the hottest Nigerian DJs. Congratulations Nigerian DJs!

Rep Naija Artists has had the utmost pleasure of being at events where members of this coalition have shown their skills and I can truly vouch for the selected few that make up this coalition. Members of this coalition are preachers behind the turntables and microphones ensuring that the world is connected with the sounds of the talented artists emerging from Nigeria.
The vision of this group is to promote Nigerian music to the world via events, workshops, radio, mixtapes and seminars. However, not every DJ is fortunate to be a part of this coalition. In order to be a member, one has to go through an application process and be referred by a member of this coalition. Given this knowledge, you can expect nothing but the best music and mixes from any of the members. I have attended tons of parties and events such as the Nigerian DJ summer jam, the Nigerian reunion and other non-major events that have featured one of the members behind the turn-tables and I had so much fun! I am talking about non-stop dancing till the end of the party and being reluctant to leave! Yes, that much fun!
Talk about nice eclectic collection of Nigerian music, perfectly suited and tailored to the audience and every region of Nigeria. No single attendee of an event leaves without having heard at least five of their favorite tracks blasting through the speakers. The members are truly masters of their art: from segueing to beat-to-beat mixing, these set of DJs have it all! From young to old, oldies to new school, these DJs are well-rounded and up-to-date on different genres of music and well experienced to cater to any type of event ranging from birthday parties to weddings and larger-scaled events such as the reunion. You can also hear some of them blasting correct Naija music on your favorite online or physical radio station from Nigeria to the U.S, to the U.K and all parts of the world.
However, the work of a DJ is not as easy as you think. It takes years to master just a simple scratch and some of the underlying skills. DJs have to constantly update their music library and be up to date with new songs, genres and artists. Let’s not talk about the physical strength it takes to haul their equipments too. I can testify that a DJ’s equipment set is super heavy.
Perhaps, the DJs are often one of the overlooked group in the entertainment industry but ask yourself, who is responsible for getting music and spreading it to the world? Who’s responsible for ensuring you are dancing to and listening to the very best combination of music and mixes on your radio, events and parties? If you answered: DJs , you are correct and I am proud to support them and so should you!
To upcoming and existing big time artists: the DJs are one of the key factors to getting your songs heard all over. No artist or performer is any good on stage without an equally good DJ behind him or her. Most artists, once they make it big time, tend to forget who helped launch their careers and made sure their music got heard all over the world. Just because you now have a successful career doesn’t mean you don’t need the DJs. So whatever you do, be polite and give the DJs the respect they deserve.
To party attendees: I know how we tend to want to have certain songs playing or some songs on repeat. The DJs were hired for a reason: to do their job and demonstrate their skills. Let them do it! Don’t try to take over their job!
That being said, whatever you do and regardless of who you think you are, do not forget to….
RESPECT THE DJS!
I’ll like to say a big thank you to the following members of the coalition that will be working hand-in-hand with Rep Naija Artists on REP mixes. Please refer to the DJ directory for more information on each of them. Their mixes will be featured in the FREE mixes and download section.

Repping Ajah Onu!

This is one of the few artists that impressed me this summer! Ajah Onu, strictly catering to the ladies with this silky-cool vocals and passionate lyrics is based in ATL, Georgia. His stellar ability to twist in and out of rhymes, while combining a hot mixture of Afro-pop, a smooth blend of American pop culture and African rhythms, creates his unique sound.
Born to a Nigerian father and American mother, Ajah mesmerizes and captivates his audiences’ attention with his dance moves. His musical journey began in 2002 with a singing trio that called themselves Ax’ent. Though members of the group went their separate ways in 2005, Ajah continued on to pursue his solo career which is very promising. His moves and swag truly reminds me of Ginuwine, a singer I greatly admire.
He has performed at two main events this summer that I attended: the Nigerian DJ summer jam in ATL as well as at the Nigerian reunion in Las Vegas. His single and favorite track of mine: Chinye is featured on the Nigerian DJ summer jam mixtape 2009!
Ladies, prepare to get serenaded by the voice of this upcoming star. Don’t forget the matching moves and the looks to go with it too! He’s one artist to watch out for in 2009 and beyond!
I REP AJAH ONU!
